CA Technologies has revealed their 3 technological predictions for 2018 today at a media appreciation luncheon held at Hilton KL. Vice President, ASEAN and Greater China, Nick Lim shared their predictions and he believes the importance of software at the core of businesses will be the determinator of success in the digital economy.
The 3 technology trends predicted are as follows:
- DevSecOps gaining traction.
Development Security Operations – Digital Security has become a high-level issue and DevSecOps will dominate the market. It enables the building, testing, security and deployment of software to be done efficiently, therefore making it more resilient to hacker attacks.
Through DevSecOps, companies will be able to deliver better focus across disciplines that will bring intelligence for businesses to speed up delivery and improve customer experience.
- Cloud is growing.
Through Cloud computing, innovation has accelerated and has offered many benefits to organisations who want more agile and cost-effective ways of delivering IT services.
They cited Wikibon as estimating that enterprise cloud spending will grow at a CAGR of 19% over the next 10 years where a large amount of growth will occur as enterprises become able to support a nimble, software-centric services business model. Lim says the SaaS or SaaSy will be where the big players spend their money.
- Mainframe Continues to be Mission Essential for Digital Businesses’ Innovation.
Lim believes the mainframe is not ready to head into the sunset just yet. In fact, he sees the mainframe services to remain even more mission essential with the advent of mobile, API enablement and containerised applications. It has been through what he calls a digital transformation of its own – from a platform that supports transaction revenue to a source of revenue and growth on its own.
With the mainframe becoming more connected in the enterprise and gaining momentum through AI and machine learning, it is transforming itself from a system of records into a hub for systems intelligence and intelligent automation services.
With the speed, security and high availability along with its new capabilities of the new connected mainframe, it will solidify its mission essential position for business innovation in the digital economy.
Lim says that for companies to embark on their digital transformation, they need a Modern Software Factory – a blueprint that gives every organisation the ability to create an agile business, build better apps faster, make security a competitive advantage and maximise application performance.
“The Modern Software Factory is one of the most important enablers of businesses,” shared Lim. “It is a way to sense, adapt and respond to a rapidly changing world. Agile organisations are driven by software and they are customer-centric.”
He added that these organisations optimise their customer journey right from the product design through the entire customer experience lifecycle. And the Modern Software Factory is able to ensure organisations are built to change and adapt to an accelerating digital world “which is a prerequisite for staying competitive in today’s digital economy.”
