The NextBigTech Asia 2018 is being held at the Connexion@Nexus from 2nd October until 3rd of October at Bangsar South in conjunction with Big Data Week (BDW) as an anchor event. The event which was organised by Knowledge Group and The Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) saw a large number of participants register and attend the event throughout the day.
With Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning becoming more and more known in the marketplace, this event comes at an opportune time to educate the masses on how to take advantage of these technological developments and use them for their businesses to help improve returns and automate processes.
Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister, YB Tuan Eddin Syazlee Shith says “AI is applied in more and more applications with intelligence becoming used in real-time systems like natural language, language translations, and in autonomous cars. In short, we are basically surrounded by AI.”
He added in his speech to officiate the event that AI will play a major role in contributing to many mainstream sectors such as financial, agricultural, transportation and healthcare.
“For example, using AI to aid clinical judgement or diagnosis. In 2017, a group at Stanford University tested an AI algorithm against 21 dermatologists on its ability to identify skin cancers. The outcome? The AI algorithm was able to match 100% of the performance of dermatologists.”
He strongly advised companies and start-ups to look into leveraging analytics, big data, AI and machine learning to stay relevant and to serve the people both in business and consumerism.
“If businesses do not actively invest in such transformation, they risk losing out from the market. In a recent research done by EY, they have found that it is crucial for companies to fast-track their businesses by leveraging on data analytics and big data, with the increasing competition, cost and regulatory pressures.”
After his speech, YB, together with the entourage which comprised of YBhg Datuk Yasmin Mahmood CEO of MDEC, Ir Dr Karl Ng, Director, Data Economy, MDEC, Kenneth Tan, GM, Ali Baba Cloud Malaysia, made their way to the exhibition hall for a closer inspection of what’s on display at this years event.
