The Selangor government will conduct a feasibility study on the use of drones and artificial intelligence (AI) to assess if there are trees, potholes or other infrastructure that need maintenance.

Selangor senior state executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim said the drones would be useful for the 12 local authorities in the state to predict risks, particularly if a tree was at risk of collapsing during heavy thunderstorms.

“The data collected by drones on the trees and potholes will be analysed using artificial intelligence, which will make it easier for us to determine the condition of the trees and potholes.

“Through the information gathered, we will know how many trees that are older than 30 years and are growing too close to power lines and these trees will need pruning,” he told Bernama after meeting the residents of Bandar Baharu Klang here on Saturday (Oct 20), who were affected by the recent storm which hit several parts of Klang on Oct 1.
