As organisations worldwide undergo a massive and crucial digital transformation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays an important role in further accelerating their technological advancement. AI offers flexible deployments in various business applications, especially in data analysis, business insights and automation.
With this potential, AI sees a huge adoption from both nations and companies globally. The global AI market is even predicted to reach USD $190.61 billion market value in 2025, with a forecasted annual growth rate of 33.2% between 2020 and 2027. Interestingly, the Asia-Pacific region will experience the highest compound annual growth rate for AI, which means that organisations in the region will welcome the technology with open arms as an important ingredient for their digital transformation success.
As a testament to that, Singapore, a known technological hub not only in the region but also the world, has intensified focus on its smart city strategies since 2014, seeking to harness ICT, networks and data as a response to growing urban challenges and energy sustainability. A key component of this plan relies on, unsurprisingly, AI.
With its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, Singapore is taking a key step in its Smart Nation journey. The Singaporean government describes this as an important factor that will transform the economy, going beyond just adopting technology, to fundamentally rethinking business models and creating new areas of growth. This includes projects to improve urban living, transport, health, digital services and businesses.
With this vision firmly in place, businesses in the city-state are also following the lead to accelerating AI adoption, especially in transport and logistics, smart cities and estates, healthcare, education and safety and security.
In fact, Singapore has shown the largest growth for its AI labour demand, on par with or even exceeding other developed countries such as the US, UK, and Canada. Its percentage of AI job postings across all job roles in 2020 was 13.5 times larger than in 2013.
Various industries in Singapore are now taking their AI adoption further. For example, Singapore’s leading banking institution, DBS Bank, is utilising AI in providing fast and effective anti-money laundering and financial crime detection and prevention. For its network analytics, telecoms company Singtel embeds AI into its IT infrastructure stack, paving the way towards more autonomous networking approaches.
Together, the public and private sectors in the city-state are embracing strategies to unlock opportunities for research, development, and deployment of AI solutions in Singapore and the region. Nevertheless, ensuring success requires having the right infrastructure in place that can meet the demanding requirements of AI technologies, be it in terms of capacity, performance or scalability.
Dell Technologies aims to provide the technology foundations required to help realise Singapore’s AI-driven ambitions. Through its Digital Innovation Hub, which was launched in February in Singapore, Dell Technologies houses R&D facilities for the development of digital products and solutions, a hardware prototyping lab dedicated to product design and innovation, and even an AI Experience Zone.
In addition, the next-generation Dell EMC PowerEdge servers are designed to meet modern organisations’ demands for agility, speed and automation as they chart their path towards an AI-enabled future. Dell EMC PowerEdge servers are AI-optimised – built to tackle the most data-intensive workloads and equipped with autonomous intelligence to give organisations the ability to anticipate and respond to their needs faster than ever before.
Singapore is already known for its smart-city initiatives but with Dell EMC PowerEdge servers, the city-state can further improve its AI strategies and applications that extend in the future.
