Covering Disruptive Technology Powering Business in The Digital Age

IBM Malaysia recently held a media roundtable event, where its Managing Director and Technology Leader, Catherine Lian addressed the pressing issue of incorporating sustainability into business models. Catherine emphasised the importance of organisations finding the right partners to create customised strategies and solutions.

As Catherine mentioned before presenting the newest addition to IBM solutions, the 2022 IBM CEO study revealed that sustainability ranks among the highest priorities on CEO agendas. More than 80% of CEOs surveyed cited sustainability investments as a strategic growth driver for business results within the next 5 years.

She also quoted some substantiated challenges where sustainability is concerned with the study that reveals:

• 35% of global CEOs surveyed have identified technological barriers to implementing sustainability in their organisation.
• 44% of global CEOs surveyed cited sustainability as among their most significant challenges with a lack of data insights.
• 57% of global CEOs surveyed also cited unclear ROI and economic benefits as a leading challenge to achieving sustainability objectives.

IBM’s Latest ESG Solutions

Two IBM solutions were spotlighted during the session: LinuxONE and Envizi.

LinuxONE or the IBM LinuxONE Rockhopper 4, announced on April 4, repackages the Emperor 4 technology into a more flexible standard rack-mount configuration. It can be deployed in either an IBM rack or one supplied by the customer. The Rockhopper 4 can be equipped with up to 68 IFL processors, each clocked at 4.6 GHz and can hold up to 16TB of DRAM.

According to the data, this enables a single Rockhopper 4 system to replace, at minimum, 36 traditional x86-based servers. This results in a 75% decrease in energy consumption while reducing the physical footprint by 67%.

IBM has acquired Envizi, a leading data and analytics software provider for environmental performance management. The new acquisition is yet another investment by IBM in AI-powered software aimed at sustainable operations and supply chains.

Envizi’s software can automate the collection and consolidation of over 500 data types while supporting major sustainability reporting frameworks. The customisable dashboards allow companies to analyse, manage, and report on environmental goals. They can also identify efficiency opportunities and assess sustainability risks.

Envizi can be used alongside IBM’s broader AI-powered software to automate the feedback generated between companies’ corporate environmental initiatives and operational endpoints used in daily business operations, making sustainability efforts more scalable. Envizi will integrate with solutions like IBM Maximo asset management solutions, IBM Sterling supply chain solutions, IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite (EIS), and IBM Turbonomic and Red Hat OpenShift capabilities.

IBM has reaffirmed its dedication to assisting customers in converting their sustainability objectives into tangible results by leveraging data-driven innovation and top-notch consulting and technology capabilities.
