The cloud impacts every industry—and the media and entertainment sector is no exception.
With this in mind, Huawei Cloud and Indonesia Digital Association (IDA) jointly held the Media and Entertainment Summit on May 30 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Themed “Unlock New Growth in Media & Entertainment with Huawei Cloud,” the summit brought together industry leaders, experts and entrepreneurs from more than 80 media industry organisations—including MNC and Kompas—for in-depth discussions on a range of topics relevant to the media and entertainment industry. Among the topics tackled at the summit were user experience improvement, content production efficiency improvement and business model innovation. The attendees also explored new opportunities created by cloud advancements in the industry.
Dian Gemiano, Chairman of IDA
Enabling the Transformation of Video in Indonesia
Dian Gemiano, Chairman of IDA, said in his speech that video has become the largest segment in Indonesia’s media and entertainment industry, which is undergoing industry transformation. He added that cloud technologies play an important role in enhancing the efficiency, quality and user experience of content delivery. Semiano also announced that IDA will advance collaboration with local media and entertainment companies to promote innovation on the cloud, explore more opportunities and achieve more success.
Arifin Asydhad, Chairman of Indonesia Chief Editors Forum and Editor-in-Chief at Kumparan.com
Arifin Asydhad, Chairman of the Indonesia Chief Editors Forum and Editor-in-Chief at Kumparan.com, shared his experience with media content writing in terms of adopting cloud technology. According to him, editors can enhance their digitisation, content production and distribution capabilities using the cloud. This can, in turn, help them narrow the existing digital divide in the Indonesian media industry and compete more effectively in the digital age.
Rio Anugrah, Head of Corporate IT Application MNC Media and CTO of MNC Digital (RCTI+ & ROOV)
Meanwhile, Rio Anugrah, Head of Corporate IT Application at MNC Media and CTO of MNC Digital (RCTI+ & ROOV), shared in his speech RCTI’s and MNC Media’s success story with Huawei Cloud. He also pointed out that the increasingly fierce competition in the media and entertainment industry underscores the importance of a great user experience.
To stay relevant, RCTI+ reached a strategic cooperation agreement with Huawei Cloud, whose live origin server enables efficient video processing and distribution, and data-driven resource scheduling. These capabilities, according to Anugrah, helped RCTI+ smoothly broadcast, at an ultra-low latency, the AFF Championship final game live, despite 3.3 million concurrent online users who drove the bandwidth peak to 800 Gbit/s. RCTI+’s experience, therefore, highlights how Huawei Cloud helps media and entertainment companies improve user experience and acquire more users.
Facilitating Better Content Creation and Production
Later in the summit, Johnsons Kwok, Head of Product Development at KG Media, spoke about how Huawei Cloud facilitates the content production of Kompas. According to Kwok, Huawei Cloud’s one-stop cloud platform for content collection, editing and broadcasting boosts production efficiency throughout the entire procedure, including article writing and editing, photo editing and proofreading. This then allows Kompas to quickly produce and process content.
In addition, Kwok highlighted how Huawei Cloud’s better auto-scaling and simplified DevOps architecture enable Kompas to efficiently develop product functions that the market needs, optimise user experience (30% faster video playback response, for instance) and acquire more users.

Unlocking New Growth With Huawei Cloud
Jamy Lyu, President of Huawei Cloud Media Service Product Dept, also delivered a keynote titled “Media Service to Media Infrastructure: Unleashing Potential for Industries.” In his speech, Lyu pointed out how audio and video technology is becoming one of the core technologies fuelling industries. The Huawei executive then noted how Huawei Cloud provides cloud-native media infrastructure that consists of one ecosystem, two service types, three engines and four core capabilities—all while adhering to the strategy of Everything-as-a-Service. Lyu later on explained how Huawei Cloud leverages the scenario-specific solutions of ecosystem partners to enable the digitalisation of Indonesia’s media and entertainment industry.
Jamy Lyu, President of Huawei Cloud Media Service Product Dept
- One ecosystem. Huawei Cloud distils the expertise of partners into cloud services and products, and works with partners to build an ecosystem for industries.
- Two service types. The cloud-native media infrastructure of Huawei Cloud provides content production and real-time interaction services for partners and developers.
- Three engines. Huawei Cloud offers a cloud-native graphics engine, spatial engine and audio and video engine to enable the creation, growth and application of digital content on the cloud.
- Four core capabilities. With a focus on media, Huawei Cloud redefines cloud infrastructure capabilities, including computing, networking, artificial intelligence and blockchain to evolve from cloud for computing to cloud for media.
The Rise of Virtual Spaces
Huawei also introduced at the summit the core advantages of Huawei Cloud in Indonesia’s media and entertainment industry— but this time using the virtual avatar of Lyu, who believes that the metaverse has become a trending topic in the digital economy.
In the future, virtual spaces, where virtual and real humans interact with each other in real-time, will emerge across industries and permeate every facet of life—including socialisation, work and even entertainment. Today’s users are increasingly interested in using virtual avatars to enter the virtual world and interact with others around the world in real-time. Application providers, therefore, must focus on providing creative and interactive 3D applications to improve content quality and attract more users and traffic.
Facilitating Collaboration, Enabling Innovation, Driving Growth
James Tan, Vice President of Solution and Sales, Huawei Cloud APAC
James Tan, Vice President of Solution and Sales, Huawei Cloud APAC, also delivered a keynote speech titled “Huawei Cloud Media Infrastructure Enables Media Industry Innovation.” In his speech, Tan discussed how Huawei Cloud facilitates seamless and efficient collaboration between content creators around the world to boost content production efficiency.
To that end, Huawei Cloud released Workspace, the next-generation cloud office service that integrates design and rendering functions and supports one-click desktop sharing and remote collaborative office work, thereby improving remote office efficiency. In addition, Huawei Cloud has released the virtual human production service and built a new digital content production pipeline with partners to automate the entire procedure of virtual human creation on the cloud, including editing, modelling, rigging, control and rendering.
To meet real-time interaction requirements, Huawei Cloud also provides media service capabilities such as OTT solutions, Low Latency Live and 3D enterprise space. Huawei Cloud is developing an OTT solution to provide customers with one-stop services covering live streaming, VOD, media processing and CDN for content distribution. Low Latency Live delivers a live latency of less than 800ms and supports smooth real-time interaction between viewers and streamers. All these capabilities are catalysing new growth in the media and entertainment industry.
Looking ahead, Huawei Cloud hopes to help the digital media industry go cloud to shatter industry barriers and work with partners and customers to bridge the industry gap. The Huawei Cloud media infrastructure enables Indonesia’s media and entertainment industry to improve user experience and content production efficiency. Huawei Cloud will explore new business models together with the digital media industry and redefine the industry productivity with new experiences, efficiency and evolution.
