Super apps are revolutionising the way we live and work. The rapid growth of Southeast Asia’s digital economy has led to apps becoming vital platforms for facilitating Internet commerce. Research by Citibank titled “Asia as a Time Machine to the Future” looks at tech adoption across the continent as a window into the future of technology. This phenomenon is particularly distinct in Malaysia as one of the emerging markets for technology and digital startups, with many players competing for a share of the rapidly growing mobile economy.
Gartner expects that by 2027, more than 50% of the global population will be daily active users of multiple super apps. The superapp concept will also expand to include enterprise mobile and desktop experiences, such as workflow, collaboration and messaging platforms.
The All-in-One Platform for Businesses
Now, let’s talk about the benefits of a super app. As we understand, a super app comes with various features and it is a “one-stop for all” app bringing not just an easier life for people but lots of more advantages as well. Super apps offer a variety of benefits for businesses looking to stay ahead in the fast-paced world of technology.
One of the significant advantages of super apps is the ability to enhance customer experience and satisfaction. People nowadays pursue anything that brings them convenience. A super app can increase customer satisfaction and loyalty by offering a one-stop shop for all their needs, leading to a more substantial customer base and repeat business.
“Super apps are revolutionising the way we live and work.”
As per Statista’s data, the total number of apps offered on both the Google Play store and Apple App Store exceeds four million. This excessive abundance of apps presents a challenge for countries facing issues such as limited smartphone storage and an oversaturated market.
However, this situation can be rectified by introducing a super app, which can help restore a balance. Consumers are clearly not suffering from a lack of choice—but is all this diversity actually useful to them?
There is a standalone app for everything. But 71% of app users churn within 90 days of installation. Clearly, the average consumer is not getting enough value from these neglected apps
Empowering Small Businesses to Thrive
Super apps are also poised to help small businesses thrive and stimulate economies, adding that 70% of new economic value generated in the next decade will be driven by digital platform business models, based on World Economic Forum estimates.
Super app technology is anticipated to develop to support Internet of Things technologies, chatbots, and immersive experiences.
Supercharging Business with The Power of Super Apps
Malaysia is set to become a high-income economy by 2025, and a conducive environment and advanced technologies are crucial for its digitalisation journey.
Businesses and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are still the backbone of most economies. In countries where super apps have ample opportunity to thrive due to drivers such as financial inclusion and younger demographics, SMEs can unlock infinite business possibilities by joining the super app ecosystem through mini-apps focused on performing a single task.
“One of the significant advantages of super apps is the ability to enhance customer experience and satisfaction. People nowadays pursue anything that brings them convenience. A super app can increase customer satisfaction and loyalty.”
The move gives them access to bigger customer base and growth opportunities. At the same time, it also amplifies the super app’s value by providing users access to a broader range of services within the app and leveraging the economies of scale and the network effects. Users can activate their toolboxes of mini-apps and services through the super app ecosystem.
The Perfect Example of a Super App
The Agmo Electric Vehicle (EV) super app stands to be a good example of a super app. Agmo is the first international customer of Alibaba Cloud’s Enterprise Mobile Application Studio (EMAS) super app solution, a full-stack platform for building super apps and related ecosystems to drive the EV evolution by adopting its cutting-edge technological superiority and cloud computing infrastructure.
The solution provides various capabilities to help enterprises build a super app with a rich ecosystem, including components for app infrastructure and business features, containers for running mini-apps, and platforms for mini-app development and operation easily and safely.
The Agmo EV super app provides not one or two, but multiple features, which makes EV drivers’ lives easier. The super app offers a range of unique features, including providing users with easy access to EV charging stations across the country, as well as assisting them to overcome any range anxiety attributed to driving EVs through route planning.
This is what we call a super app. An app that could make life easier.
As consumers continue to demand more convenience and simplicity in their apps, businesses that adopt super apps can see significant growth and success in today’s digital landscape. With the fast-paced nature of technology, companies need to stay ahead of the curve, and super apps provide a unique and innovative way to do that.
