Google has recently unveiled its latest wave of innovation and enhancements to Google Workspace, beginning with the introduction of Google Vids, the company’s groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered video creation application tailored for professional use.
Over 15 years ago, Google revolutionised the work landscape by introducing the world’s first cloud-native text editor through Docs, Sheets, and Slides. With just a browser, users gained the ability to craft and collaborate on dynamic online documents seamlessly in real time. Now, the Alphabet-owned firm is extending this transformative capability to the realm of video, enabling users worldwide to harness the power of immersive storytelling in their work. Vids will soon debut in Workspace Labs, slated for release in June.
Elevate Workplace Storytelling with AI-Powered Video
Every day, people engage in storytelling at work. From HR teams introducing new hires to the organisation’s mission, to training teams crafting digital learning experiences, and sales professionals showcasing the benefits of their offerings to clients. While video serves as a powerful storytelling medium due to its directness and ability to “cut through the noise,” it can often be challenging to know where to begin.
Now, anyone can unlock their inner storyteller through video with Google Vids, Google’s new AI-powered video creation app designed for professional use. Google Vids serves as a comprehensive assistant for all things related to video production, from scripting to editing.
This application streamlines the process by generating customizable storyboards and offering a selection of video styles to choose from. With Google Vids, creating a first draft is effortless, as it automatically suggests scenes using a curated collection of stock videos, images, and background music.
Moreover, Google Vids simplifies the process of conveying messages by providing options for voiceovers; users can select from a range of built-in voices or use their own. Integrated seamlessly into Google Workspace alongside apps like Docs, Sheets, and Slides, Google Vids boasts a user-friendly interface that promotes collaboration and secure project sharing directly from the browser. With its innovative features, Google Vids empowers individuals of all skill levels to excel as storytellers in the workplace.
More Than Just Google Vids
Google has also unveiled two commercial packages designed to provide AI-powered solutions for meetings, messaging, and security across the entire organisation, all at a cost of just USD $10 per user per month. Furthermore, Google is excited to introduce Gemini to Google Chat in a preview phase, offering AI-powered virtual teammates capable of summarising conversations, addressing inquiries, and beyond.
Lastly, Google is streamlining the process for organisations to leverage the potential of their data and custom AI models by integrating Vertex AI with Workspace as the platform, facilitating cutting-edge workflows seamlessly integrated into Docs, Gmail, and other Workspace applications.
Throughout the past year, Google has introduced hundreds of features and improvements to Google Workspace and Gemini for Workspace. We’re thrilled to witness their tangible impact on our customers. Remarkably, 70% of enterprise users utilizing ‘Help me write’ in Docs or Gmail ultimately adopt Gemini’s suggestions, while over 75% of users incorporating images into their presentations in Slides find them indispensable.
Gemini empowers users to reclaim valuable time for higher-value tasks, as demonstrated by employees at Onix, a leading global cloud consulting company, who collectively save the equivalent of one workday per month through Gemini’s assistance.
Similarly, the team at Sports Basement, a renowned sports equipment retail company, has streamlined their response time to customer support requests by an impressive 30–35%. Across various sectors including business, education, and government, Gemini empowers users of all backgrounds and skill levels to exceed their own expectations.
AI Meetings Add-on and Enhanced Messaging
AI functionalities such as Take notes for me (currently in preview) enable users to concentrate on conversations without the need to take written notes manually. Beginning in June, the Translate for me feature will automatically detect and translate captions in Meet, supporting 69 languages (equivalent to 4,600 language pairs). This enhancement fosters confidence and connection among users, bridging language barriers within teams.
Furthermore, later this year, Google will introduce automatic translation for messages and on-demand conversation summaries in Google Chat.
At Pepperdine University, students and staff are utilising this feature to facilitate meetings and learning in multiple languages.
“Captioning in Google Meet will be a major breakthrough in expanding equity and accessibility, especially for those with language barriers. With Gemini for Google Workspace, we can now quickly transcribe meeting minutes in Google Docs and summarize them to share with our users, said Jonathan See, CIO at Pepperdine University.
Google offers all of these services in its new AI Meetings and Messaging add-on for just USD $10 per user per month, and it can be added to most Workspace plans.
