Day two of #NEXT BIG TECH ASIA 2017 saw a packed room once again as highly anticipated speakers from Google, HRDF, Deloitte, and many others were set to address the delegates. The Big Data Week Asia 2017 which was organized for industry players, students and the public alike, gives them a better idea and grasp of the inner workings of Big Data Analytics and Data Science.

The event is a joint-effort between ASEAN Data Analytics eXchange (ADAX), Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and renowned industry players, promoting the Data Star programme that will help Malaysia to achieve 20,000 data professionals by 2020; a goal set by the government in 2015. The programme was announced during the week-long event that featured international speakers of various expertise, leading exhibitors, sponsors and satellite events focusing on building a data driven ASEAN.

The Data Star programme also provides a two-month intensive data science enablement exercise, which includes hands-on modules with experienced data scientists and placement offers with selected industry partners. The learning path is curated to align them with the Data Professional Skill Framework, a platform that supports data and analytics knowledge development with focuses on three primary scopes; data engineer, data analyst and data scientist.

The anchor event was held from 2nd – 3rd of October 2017, at KL Convention Centre. This will be followed by Big Data Workshop – a platform designed for tertiary students and start-ups taking place from 4th to 6th October at ADAX office in Bangsar South. Finally, the event will conclude by hosting Big Data Tech Jam – a festival aimed at educating public on BDA and the role it can play in our daily lives.
