Aerodyne Group has signed an agreement to acquire a principal stake in Synapse Innovation Sdn Bhd to “supercharge the group’s prowess in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics”, as well as strengthen its technology support for international operations in 35 countries.

Aerodyne, a Malaysia-headquartered international drone tech, data tech and digital transformation (DT3) solutions provider, said it, together with Synapse, would be developing the next-generation drone data intelligence platform, “coupled with smart-nested autonomous drone solutions.”

“Synapse chief executive officer Afnizanfaizal Abdullah, who is a prominent AI scientist in Malaysia, will continue to lead the company and remain as a shareholder in the business,” the two companies said in a joint statement.

Synapse is an AI and data analytics company that focuses on designing and developing machine learning algorithms for cloud-based predictive analytics services for various sectors, including agriculture, infrastructure and oil and gas.

Aerodyne Founder and CEO Kamarul Muhamed said the investment in Synapse was the first of many future mergers and acquisitions as the company focuses on enhancing the breadth and depth of the second data technology pillar.

“Synapse is perfectly aligned to this vision and has the expertise to contribute to this agenda. Aerodyne Group also intends to accelerate Synapse’s growth plans exponentially under its technology ecosystem building agenda to champion Malaysian technology”, said Muhamed.

Aerodyne Chief Strategy Officer Amir Zakwan Anuar said the group would reinforce its competitive edge as a top-ranked drone technology company in the world, strengthening its position for an international public listing within the next few years through the investment in Synapse.
