AirAsia has engaged data analytics company Palantir as its strategic data science partner to carry out the airline’s data science projects on its platforms across various business functions over the next five years.

These functions include guest experience, inflight sales, route revenue, finance, security, flight operations, network planning, cargo, supply chain management, commercial and people development.

The partnership will also serve projects such as building “customer-obsessed” data-backed models, providing visibility and improving efficiency across AirAsia operations. It also looks to improve efficiency in procurement and inventory management and providing technical and analytical training for AirAsia’s Allstars.

Tony Fernandes, AirAsia group CEO and AirAsia X co-group CEO said in a statement that the partnership looks to enable AirAsia to “drive exponential growth and set the standard for how airlines use data to increase revenue”.

“Data is the biggest asset we have. But data is also meaningless if you can’t make sense of it. That’s where Palantir comes in – to help us understand the data and the relationships between them, from operations to commercial to guest experience,” Fernandes added.

“AirAsia is at the forefront of innovation in aviation. Tony Fernandes has built a path-breaking organisation in a vital industry, and we could not be more proud to have AirAsia as a partner,” Alex Karp, Palantir CEO and co-founder said.
