Alibaba Cloud, the data intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has offered its Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to host Sabah Pay, the latest e-wallet system for Sabah state. Alibaba Cloud will provide a more efficient and scalable platform utilising this next generation infrastructure to support the state’s vision to improve financial inclusivity and centralise all monetary transactions under one platform for a seamless experience.

Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal last September announced about Sabah Pay, the state’s latest initiative to embrace digital economy, when Sabah Credit Corporation (SCC) was given the mandate to set up the state’s e-wallet platform.

Alibaba Cloud’s IaaS service will provide Sabahans a comprehensive platform to conduct and record payments through a variety of citizen-centric services, as well as acting as a one-stop source for every visitor that wants to know more about the state. While maintaining cost efficiency, the IaaS system will also offer elasticity and scalability.

Mr. George Taitim Tulas, CEO of SCC, said, “Sabah Pay is an initiative that aims to benefit not only Sabahans, but also tourists and merchants alike. Currently, we are hosting twenty-one government agencies and non-government organizations, sixteen commercial partners, and six products on our app. They provide services ranging from financial services, payment collections, events and promotions, public announcements as well as incident reports,”

“Our first choice was to seek the services of Alibaba Cloud. Its extensive list of successful case studies, as well as the team’s commitment, dedication and professionalism, has proven to be the perfect choice for Sabah Pay. They are always committed to delivering the best services and solutions, and initial test runs with their IaaS system showed very positive results. We look forward to taking this collaboration to the next level in the near future,” he further added.

SCC’s goal is to also provide full financial inclusion that will allow every individual and business in Sabah to have access to a convenient, easily accessible and reliable e-wallet system. Financial inclusion is key in promoting healthy competition amongst businesses to provide quality incentives, products and services, and for individuals to plan their finances wisely.

Mr. Jordy Cao, General Manager of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence for Malaysia and Thailand, said, “We believe our proven expertise in the e-commerce and e-wallet industry could assist Sabah Pay in bringing exceptional services to the state’s community. We aim to deliver the most cost-efficient, advanced, intelligent, and secure services to every business partner we work with. We are confident that our IaaS system will be able to help them manage their services in a scalable and cost-efficient manner, in this fast-paced digital age.”

“We hope that the partnership will bloom positive results and we look forward to a more extensive partnership with Sabah Pay in the future. We are also proud to be able to provide Alibaba Cloud’s IaaS system to the Malaysian market, which is proven to be one of the most cost-efficient, effective and secure options available in the world.’ he added.

According to Gartner, Alibaba Cloud is the biggest public cloud service provider in APAC and ranked third worldwide. Alibaba Cloud  has been named the first public cloud vendor in the world to obtain the prestigious Trusted Partner Network (TPN) certification and operates in 20 regions across 61 availability zones globally. It is also the first Cloud provider to fulfil the additional requirements of Germany’s Cloud Computing Compliance Controls Catalog (C5) and has more than 70 security and compliance accreditations worldwide.
