In a momentous declaration, Dr Lisa Su, AMD’s Chair and CEO, emphasised the company’s monumental leap forward in their data centre strategy. As part of this leap, AMD expanded its 4th Gen EPYC™ processor family with ground-breaking solutions specially designed for cloud and technical computing workloads. The event also witnessed the unveiling of new public instances and internal deployments with major cloud providers, firmly establishing AMD’s stronghold in the industry.

Compute Infrastructure Optimised for the Modern Data Centre

Joined by AWS, AMD offered an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated next-generation Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) M7a instances, fuelled by the revolutionary 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors code-named “Genoa.” Notably, Oracle also jumped on board, announcing its plans to deploy new Oracle Computing Infrastructure (OCI) E5 instances powered by the 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors, further amplifying AMD’s industry impact.
  • No Compromise Cloud Native Computing: AMD unveiled the awe-inspiring 4th Gen AMD EPYC 97X4 processors, formerly known as “Bergamo.” Boasting an impressive 128 “Zen 4C” cores per socket, these processors redefine virtual CPU density and set industry performance standards for cloud applications, all while maintaining exceptional energy efficiency.The event featured Meta, sharing their exhilarating experience with the 4th Gen AMD EPYC 97×4 processors. Meta highlighted the processors’ perfect match for their flagship applications, such as Instagram and WhatsApp, showcasing impressive performance gains compared to the previous generation. Not only did they witness superior performance across various workloads, but they also experienced substantial Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) improvements. The partnership between AMD and Meta resulted in optimised EPYC CPUs that perfectly catered to Meta’s power efficiency and compute-density requirements.
  • Enabling Better Products with Technical Computing: AMD pushed the boundaries once again by introducing the world’s highest-performing x86 server CPUs for technical computing, the 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors equipped with AMD 3D V-Cache™ technology. This game-changing technology revolutionises the landscape of technical computing, delivering unmatched power and performance. Microsoft also chimed in with an exciting announcement, sharing the general availability of Azure HBv4 and HX instances powered by the cutting-edge 4th Gen AMD EPYC processors with AMD 3D V-Cache technology.

  • The Roadmap to the Future – “Giglio”: AMD tantalised the audience with a glimpse into the future of DPUs, unveiling its next-generation DPU roadmap code-named “Giglio.” This future gem promises enhanced performance and power efficiency compared to current-generation products and is expected to be available by the end of 2023.
