Bank Negara Indonesia has tapped Cloudera, the data company for trusted enterprise Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help achieve its vision of growing into a global banking and financial services leader. Through this partnership, Bank Negara Indonesia is looking to harness the value of its enterprise data with the power of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to innovate and improve banking services through an elevated customer experience and increased operational efficiency.
As it continues its four-year transformation journey, Bank Negara Indonesia is utilising GenAI with Cloudera and exploring NVIDIA technology as its engine. Its near-term focus is the further enhancement of regional and commercial banking office productivity as well as the bolstering of its credit mechanism and transaction banking platform for a richly personalised customer experience.
The Indonesian bank is among the first customers globally to trial Cloudera’s AI Inference service powered by NVIDIA NIM—part of the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform—for multiple use cases leveraging GenAI and machine learning. Cloudera AI Inference streamlines the deployment and management of large-scale AI models, delivering high performance and efficiency while maintaining strict privacy and security standards.
The bank is deploying the service within its own virtual private cloud to provide a production-grade servicing environment for hosting predictive, GenAI, and large language models with an additional layer of protection and control.
Bank Negara Indonesia Expands Use of Cloudera for More Innovation
This latest deployment builds on Bank Negara Indonesia’s existing usage of Cloudera solutions that will enable the bank to rapidly scale up its GenAI operations to underpin its transformation journey, such as delivering a knowledge-based co-pilot for employees as well as richly personalised customer service.
With the necessary infrastructure and maintenance processes in place, the bank’s data science teams can now deploy AI models quickly, securely, and cost-effectively while maintaining full control over their data.
“This strong collaboration among Bank Negara Indonesia, Cloudera, and NVIDIA will allow us to continue innovating and thus further strengthen its presence in the market by offering greater value to our customers and stakeholders,” said Billie Setiawan, Senior Vice President of Bank Negara Indonesia.
Notably, Cloudera’s AI Inference service offers market-leading inference performance for both proprietary and optimised open-source models. Key features include an easy-to-use interface, real-time low-latency predictions, up to 36x faster AI model inference on NVIDIA GPUs, and advanced deployment patterns.
The full release is expected to be in August.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Bank Negara Indonesia as they leverage the power of GenAI and data that fuels it to drive innovation and achieve their business goals. Cloudera’s industry-leading data platform provides one of Indonesia’s largest state-owned banks with the scalability, security, and flexibility that they need to unlock the transformative potential of GenAI. This collaboration is a testament to Cloudera’s commitment to helping Indonesian enterprises like BNI achieve their digital transformation goals,” said Sherlie Karnidta, Country Manager, Indonesia, at Cloudera.
“Generative AI-driven banking demands top-tier AI technologies to meet the diverse needs of a global customer base,” said Malcolm deMayo, Global Vice President of Financial Services at NVIDIA. “Cloudera’s AI Inference service, combined with NVIDIA NIM, delivers the performance and security needed for Bank Negara Indonesia to achieve its innovative AI-driven banking goals.”
Representatives from BNI recently visited Cloudera’s and NVIDIA’s respective Executive Briefing Centers in Santa Clara, California, United States of America, where they met with Cloudera and NVIDIA leaders to chart BNI’s GenAI journey. Key topics discussed included the pilot project of Cloudera’s latest NVIDIA NIM-powered AI Inference service, which is currently under technology preview, and best-in-class approaches and innovative Cloudera and NVIDIA technologies to support Indonesia’s largest state-owned bank in reaching its transformation goals.
