The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) is proud to announce that Malaysia will once again host the prestigious Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO 42) from 22 to 24 October 2024 at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu.
This year, CAFEO 42 is expected to attract 200 exhibitors and 1,500 conference participants from across the ASEAN region. The expansive exhibition will provide a unique platform for companies, innovators, and researchers to showcase their latest technologies, products, and services. It will be a dynamic space for networking, collaboration, and discovering new solutions that can propel the engineering sector forward.
CAFEO, an annual event that rotates among ASEAN member countries, is a cornerstone in the engineering calendar of the region. The conference serves as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and collaboration among engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders. CAFEO 42 has received full support from the Sabah state government, as well as engineering organisations of all ASEAN Countries
As a unique event that combines the exchange of knowledge, skills, and trade, this year’s CAFEO 42, with its expanded engineering exhibition, aims to see RM50 million (USD $10.6 million) in business value, research potential, and collaborations between government, academia and industry.
CAFEO 42: A Milestone Return to Malaysia
This year’s return to Malaysia marks a significant occasion, as the country last hosted the event in 2015. The 42nd iteration of this esteemed conference, named CAFEO 42, promises to be a landmark event, bringing together some of the brightest minds in engineering from across the ASEAN region.
The theme for CAFEO 42 is “Charting ASEAN Growth with Digital Transformation, Smart Engineering, and Green Solutions.” This theme highlights the importance of integrating digital technologies, adopting smart engineering practices, and implementing sustainable solutions to drive economic growth and innovation in ASEAN.
It also underscores the crucial role of engineers in addressing the challenges and opportunities presented by rapid technological advancements and the urgent need for sustainable development.
“By participating in CAFEO 42, engineers can gain a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the profession. It encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration and fosters a sense of solidarity among engineers, reinforcing the idea that we are stronger together,” said Ir. Prof. Dr. Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin, IEM President and Chairman at AFEO.
In addition to the main conference, CAFEO 42 will feature several important group meetings among delegates from AFEO (ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations) member-organisations. These meetings will involve various committees focused on key sectors such as construction, manufacturing, electronics, energy, mobility, transportation, and logistics.
Delegates will also present country reports, providing valuable insights into the engineering advancements and challenges faced by each ASEAN nation. These discussions are crucial for fostering regional cooperation and sharing best practices across the diverse engineering landscape of ASEAN.
Another highlight of CAFEO 42 will be the WEAFEO (Women Engineers ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations) Summit. This summit will focus on empowering women engineers and addressing the unique challenges they face in the engineering profession.
“I would like to once again welcome all of you to the soft launch of CAFEO 42. We are excited about the journey ahead and the opportunity to bring together the brightest minds in engineering from across the ASEAN region. Together, we will explore new frontiers, tackle shared challenges, and chart a course toward a brighter, more sustainable future”, said Ir. Chin Tet Fu @ Willy, Organising Chairman of CAFEO 42.
Apart from the main events, visitors to CAFEO 42 will be mesmerised by Sabah’s beauty through side activities organised for participants, including excursions around Sabah, a Mount Kinabalu climb and a golf tournament for participants.
