Besides the holy trinity of technology (GenAI, ML, and Big Data), electronic wallets, more commonly coined as e-wallets, are also playing a pivotal role in the world’s digital transformation journey and in forming a cashless society. In the effort to create a better and more secure cashless society in Malaysia, Curlec by Razorpay, a full-stack development provider, recently announced that it is now a member of Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet), the national payments network and infrastructure of Malaysia.

This exciting development was announced by Curlec at an event held at the W Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. And attending said event were key figures from Curlec by Razorpay and PayNet: Zac Liew, Co-Founder and CEO of Curlec by Razorpay, Rahul Kothari, Chief Business Officer of Razorpay and Gary Yeoh, Chief Commercial Officer of PayNet.

The event began with enthusiastic remarks from Rahul Kothari, Chief Business Officer of Razorpay. In his remarks, Kothari mentioned that Malaysia is expected to become one of the countries with a thriving fintech ecosystem and the epicenter for fintech revolution in the Southeast Asia region. The latter statement is evident with the existence of game-changing technologies such as DuitNow and direct debit, both of which have been widely used by Malaysians; whether in-store or online transactions.

Offering the Malaysian Market with Uncompromising Digital Payment Tech

Following Kothari’s enthusiastic remarks, Zac Liew, Co-Founder and CEO of Curlec by Razorpay took to the stage and shared a few key insights such as offering Malaysian merchants uncompromising digital payment technology—covering all local payment in the Malaysian market and the best security to prevent fraud or any other such incidents. He also excitedly shared that since the launching of their Payment Gateway in July, they are now serving over 1,000 merchants and processing more than RM2 billion. Liew announced and introduced attendees to the merchants that have been using Curlec Payment Gateway solutions: Kualesa, redBus, Courtsite, and Nateskin.

Following Liew’s announcement, Curlec was formally inducted as a direct member of PayNet in a ceremonious event. Liew highlighted that this partnership would empower Curlec to elevate merchant services, enhance customer experiences, and drive market innovation as an official member of PayNet. This strategic alignment resonates with PayNet’s mission to foster and advance Malaysia’s cashless society.

After the formalisation of Curlec as a direct member of PayNet, the event transitioned to a fireside chat. During this discussion, Kothari emphasised Malaysia’s imminent FinTech revolution, presenting an opportune moment for Curlec to catalyse digital payment transformation. With a focus on grassroots involvement, Curlec aims to integrate merchants into this revolution through simplified onboarding processes. Liew expanded on this, highlighting Curlec’s enhanced capacity as a PayNet member to drive innovation and better serve their registered merchants. He anticipates that seamless digital onboarding will propel domestic digital payments, merchants, and transactions.
