AngelHack, together with MDEC, recently organised a hackathon in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. It was held at Berjaya Times Square and ran for 2 days, kicking off at the strike of 12 in the afternoon on the 4th of June running non-stop till 6pm the next day.

Themed ‘Smart Lifestyle, Business O2O (Online to Offline) and Big Data Analytics’, the event saw almost 400 participants gather at the foyer to pit their wits against the best in the region.

An energy filled environment from the get go, it had a good mix of student, business owners, first time hackers as well as return hackers from all across the globe under one roof looking to gain experience, share knowledge and learn from the many mentors who were available, on call, throughout the event.

Lucas, who hails from Germany says his team comprising of Malaysian and Bangladesh nationals were there to develop a business site. Of course being a competition, they weren’t at liberty to divulge any further details on what their innovation would be.

A Malaysian contingent travelling from Perak was also represented. Nazmi, the team leader, has been attending AngelHack Hackathons since 2013. “I learn a lot from this event and I’m very inspired to keep coming for more Hackathons in the future”, he says enthusiastically. He himself is not into computing but after his first Hackathon, he has been hooked on it and managed to get a number of his friends to join in.
