Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) has helped to amplify the digitalisation efforts of the telecommunications industry, vertical industries, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and society.
This was said by Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin in his speech when he officiated Huawei’s annual Supplier Convention. Also present at the event was the Interim Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.
The Deputy Minister added that Huawei was among the important stakeholders that responded to the government’s call for the advancement towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) and helped in Malaysia’s digital transformation by collaborating actively with government agencies, government-linked companies (GLCs), and local enterprises, making big changes to the way the country does businesses.
The Deputy Minister and Salim were received at the event and accompanied by Michael Yuan, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Huawei Malaysia, and Wang Junsong, Vice President at Huawei Asia Pacific.
The convention, held to celebrate and honour the company’s devoted business suppliers, was able to be held physically after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and drew more than 120 guests comprising movers and shakers of various industries.
For the past 21 years, Huawei has worked together with its trusted industry suppliers, ensuring the timely delivery of services to customers, even during the restrictions caused by the pandemic. These partnerships assisted in cementing the company’s position as one of the leading Information and Communications Technology (ICT) solutions providers in the country.
“In order for the ICT ecosystem to flourish, Public-Private Partnerships are important in ensuring the country’s readiness for today’s evolving landscape and in building the bedrock of a digital nation. This is why contributions of companies such as Huawei are crucial. For the last two decades, I believe Huawei Malaysia has made it a mission to advance business opportunities of local enterprises,” said Zahidi.
The Deputy Minister added: “I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Huawei for their special contribution in improving the network of telcos, helping serve more than 90% of the Malaysian population, ensuring “no one is left behind.” Huawei is also one of the pioneers in cloud technology here in Malaysia through their collaboration with Telekom Malaysia in developing the Alpha Edge, a hyper scale cloud service that ensures data locality and sovereignty for enterprises and government institutions. We look forward to welcoming Huawei for more such endeavours in the future.”
Yuan in his speech, said the digital economy is no longer a vision of the future, but a reality of today.
“Being one of the nation’s key economic pillars, the digital economy is the new driver of development. By leveraging technology, Malaysia can increase productivity, spur innovation, and improve livelihoods. The digital economy can promote inclusion, lower costs, increase efficiency and encourage innovation as well as scale economies, allowing entirely new forms of businesses and entrepreneurship to emerge.
He added: “Together with our important partners, I am confident that we will continue to jointly create value for our businesses, ensure the timely delivery of services to our customers and promote the rapid development of the ICT industry in supporting Malaysia’s aspiration to become a high-income and digital nation.”
Wang said Huawei Malaysia has been instrumental in driving change for various digital and technological projects across several industries in Malaysia since its inception with the support and dedicated involvement of its suppliers.
“I must congratulate our suppliers here in Huawei Malaysia for their dedication in delivering our projects, especially in East Malaysia, where logistics, costing, and supply chains can prove to be a challenge,” he added.
Wang also commended the determination and efficiencies of Huawei’s loyal suppliers in assisting the company in developing and bolstering new business areas such as digital power, data centres and cloud services.
Globally, Huawei has generated USD $45 billion dollars in revenue during the first half of 2022, with a net profit margin of 5%. Huawei’s Carrier Business Group contributed USD $21.3 billion, while the Enterprise Business Group generated USD $8.1 billion and the Device Business Group, USD $15.1 billion.
