Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will serve as an impetus towards talent development via a sharing of knowledge and training collaborations between both parties.

The MoU, among others things, will focus on Huawei’s global experience and success in the ICT sector, with the technology giant sharing its know-how and expertise in 5G, cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as to leverage on Industry 4.0 for training purposes.

The collaboration also includes the setting up of a technical team to assist FMM members in their digital transformation initiatives. It also involves the cross-sharing of experts and knowledge via workshops, seminars and training programmes.

Based on the MoU, both parties aim to train 5,000 digital talents for the manufacturing industry yearly for five years, ensuring the sustainability of a quality digital talent pool.

Present during the MoU signing ceremony were Michael Yuan, Chief Executive Officer at Huawei Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Soh Thian Lai, President at FMM as well as other FMM Council Members.

“What is very real today is the opportunity for manufacturers especially SMI/SMEs to leverage on technology to gain further efficiencies and to extend their reach to beyond domestic shores”, said Dato’ Soh. “While it is difficult for us to compete with manufacturers with large domestic markets in their respective countries, or on labour intensive industries where labour costs are lower, we certainly can compete on expertise and agility, and we have a head start in this when compared to our neighbours”.

Dato’ Soh added: “FMM and Huawei have enhanced our partnership to collaborate on Industry 4.0 and digitalisation systems to help manufacturers embark on digital transformation and provide an avenue to reskill talent in new skill areas and emerging technologies. Through this partnership, we envision to create greater momentum and enrich the current Industry 4.0 ecosystem to support local manufacturers begin their digital transformation journeys”.

“As a global technology leader and enabler, Huawei firmly believes that the current era — which is largely driven and powered by 5G, Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) — is built on the following pillars: ubiquitous connectivity; pervasive intelligence; digital platforms to enable vertical industries to realise their digital transformation; personal devices for users; and digital energy”, said Yuan.

He added: “Huawei Malaysia celebrates its 20th Anniversary this year and as we look back at our past achievements, it has been our privilege to have been given the opportunity to assist Malaysian industries for the past two decades. We hope industry players in FMM will continue giving us their trust and the opportunity to share in developing their digital footprint. Together we can better integrate digital technology with business scenarios and foster an open industry ecosystem. The digital economy around the world is expanding and it is our hope that together, we can ride this wave towards shared greater prosperity in the coming years”.

The Malaysian Government has embarked on a nationwide strategy to elevate its digital economy in a more comprehensive way. Responding to the call by the government for the involvement of more private companies, Huawei has made a long-standing commitment towards helping industries achieve their mission and vision of developing their own workforce of tomorrow.

Huawei Malaysia had previously worked closely with notable Malaysian corporations and government agencies in digitalisation programmes and is continuously empowering digital talents across various businesses and technology sectors to enrich the talent supply for industries and improve the quality of professional talents.
