In Southeast Asia, the Philippines is widely recognised for having millions of active internet users, reaching 73.91 million as of January 2021. This is an increase of 6.1% between 2020 and 2021, accounting for an internet penetration of 67% this year against the country’s 110.3 million population.

This online presence is a major factor in getting the Philippines on the right track to realise its digitalisation objectives. To build on this momentum, the government is moving towards a cloud-centred digital landscape, with various plans underway and projects already implemented to boost the country’s cloud adoption.

Last year, the Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) amended its Cloud First Policy to provide clearer instructions on policy coverage, data classification and data security, marking a step towards cloud realisation in the country.

The said policy aims to promote cloud computing as the preferred technology for government administration and services. In addition, this will serve as a catalyst for the government’s digital transformation in maximising the ICT industry during the transition to the new normal.

As for private organisations and industries in the country, cloud adoption is also a priority. Local companies are making sure that they can provide better, faster and more efficient services – which the cloud can provide.

In fact, 94% of Philippine businesses view cloud-based IT solutions as an important factor in mitigating the impact of the pandemic.

As an example, telecommunications giant Globe recently announced that it is migrating its technology infrastructure to Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage and computing to speed up systems and improve customer experience. Its fintech arm, GCash, is already one of the leading e-wallet providers in the country. With the cloud, the company has enabled more efficient ways for customers to pay their bills online, powered chatbots to attend to customer concerns in real-time and allowed them to access a host of other services in mere seconds.

In addition, leading internet service provider PLDT is also making various efforts by collaborating with companies such as Microsoft to enhance its cloud platform, cloud productivity, collaboration and content, data centre and small and midmarket cloud solutions.

The Philippines is already embarking on the journey to cloud success and modernisation of its digital landscape. However, this does not diminish the importance of the on-premises architecture – it must keep up with the accelerated advancements of the cloud to allow an organisation to leverage the power of the cloud.

With that, agencies and enterprises in the country will need a reliable IT infrastructure to ensure that this cloud adoption is fruitful and imminent.

Dell Technologies, with its portfolio of modern Dell EMC PowerEdge servers, provides the solid foundation that allows businesses to empower IT and embrace a cloud-enabled future. Working closely with leading IT providers such as Integrated Computer Systems Inc. (ICS), Dell Technologies delivers data mobility and consistent operation of critical workloads across various organisations’ on-premises, hybrid cloud or multi-cloud model. Like Dell Technologies, ICS is currently focusing on expanding its cloud portfolio.

“The Philippines has a lot of potential when it comes to cloud adoption. Dell Technologies and ICS are making sure that organisations in the country will have the right infrastructure for their cloud journey, and we have the Dell EMC PowerEdge servers for that. These modern servers are developed specifically to deliver the right combination of technology and capabilities to address requirements and challenges in the cloud. Companies need such solutions for their virtualisation, cloud and analytics workloads, in delivering rapid modernisation and cloud success”, said Johanna Mortel, head of the Cloud Business Department at ICS.

The Philippines’ success in its cloud journey is impending, with solutions such as the Dell EMC PowerEdge servers enabling this adoption to become faster and more secure. To learn more, click here.
