KUALA LUMPUR’S FIRST AI AND BIG DATA CHALLENGE FOR DATA ENGINEERS (ABCDE) HACKATHON

UNLOCK INTERNATIONAL SDN BHD (UD), through its subsidiary division UNLOCK ASIA, has organized its first ABCDE KL (AI and Big Data Challenge for Data Engineers) Hackathon on 27 – 28 April 2019.

This event was marketed under UD’s brand, UNLOCK ASIA. UNLOCK ASIA enables and provides the growth of young talents through the development of sustainable programs to accelerate their performance and unlock their untapped potential.

According to Chief Executive Officer of UD, Shozo Yamaguchi, over 80 participants has participated in this pilot ABCDE KL initiative, which targets the participation from students, working professionals, and anyone who is interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data technology.

“We aim, through this event, to stimulate a dynamic and innovative movement where bold ideas are created to aid the advancement of industries and solve real-world business issues with big data analysis.”

As stated by Director, Data Economy Division of Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Ir. Dr Karl Ng Kah Hou, “It is hoped that the event will activate a tech-savvy community in Malaysia. We are hoping to engage a diverse range of participants that could channel their brilliance and impressive range of solutions that could uplift the digital industry. We are grateful that UNLOCK ASIA is presenting the opportune platform via ABCDE KL.”

The event, based on the four themes of Government, Retail, and Human Resource, was held at ASEAN Data Analytics Exchange, ADAX, Level 27, The Vertical Business Suite, Bangsar South; this venue was sponsored by MDEC.

Among the other ABCDE KL sponsors include Grooves Inc., Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre and NUREN Group. The academic partners for this event were Taylor’s University, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, and University UCSI.

Post-Event

Team Deeper Mind has successfully seized the cash prize of RM 9,000.00 as the Winner of the challenge, followed by Team Seek Asia, as the First Runner-up, bringing back RM 4,000.00 cash prize and Second Runner-up, DataInnov with RM 2,000.00. Also, SOZO managed to seize the comeback cash prize of RM 1,000.00 as the Comeback Winner.

The Award Ceremony was witnessed by the respective Judges of ABCDE KL, Mr. Kelvin Leow, Chief Technology Officer / Technopreneur Nuren Group; Mr. Mohd Zamri Shah bin Mastor, Chief Officer of MESTECC; Mr. Shozo Yamaguchi, CEO of UNLOCK DESIGN; Mr. Aditya Tuli, VP, Technology and Innovation, MaGIC; and Mr. Hiroki Yamashita, General Manager of Grooves Inc.
