Lenovo unveiled a strategic partnership with Austral Techsmith to enhance the capabilities of latter’s cutting-edge 5G smart pole technology, slated for deployment in Malaysia. The collaboration seeks to integrate ThinkEdge, Lenovo’s innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered solution, into Austral Techsmith’s 5G smart poles, thereby revolutionising the landscape of video analytics for smart cities.
These 5G smart poles erected by Austral Techsmith will incorporate ThinkEdge technology, providing city councils and government agencies with unparalleled AI-powered video analytics capabilities. Designed with intelligent edge capabilities, the ThinkEdge SE50 powered by Intel® Core™ i7 vPro® processor is the ultimate choice for AI video analytics, offering state-of-the-art features and unmatched data processing performance.
Moving forward with Malaysia’s journey toward establishing smarter cities, video analytics technology is pivotal to addressing critical challenges in urban areas. This technology effectively analyses extensive volumes of video footage and swiftly conducts necessary searches with precision. It significantly contributes to developing intelligent transportation systems, ensuring safer and more efficient traffic management.
Real-time Traffic Management with Lenovo and Austral Techsmith
As urbanisation escalates, the issue of traffic congestion becomes increasingly pressing. The ThinkEdge SE50, which is equipped with mounting kits onto the lamp post enable traffic monitoring for congestion hotspots and dynamic adjustments to traffic light control systems.
In addition, ThinkEdge SE50 is designed with flexible IO ports, including 4 NICs on embedded compute nodes to enhance connectivity. This will elevate real-time data collection for improved decision-making and automation, ultimately reducing accidents and traffic jams in urban areas.
Enhanced Safety Measures
Built for reduced latency, Lenovo’s ThinkEdge SE50 puts increased processing power, storage, and network closer to where data is generated. The system detects dangerous situations in real-time, such as vehicles in unauthorized areas, wrong-way driving, erratic vehicle behaviour, and accidents, aiding in prompt intervention, accident prevention, and evidence collection.
Aligned with its commitment to making a positive societal impact through the introduction of revolutionary technologies, Lenovo offers Austral Techsmith and its customers an attractive Device-as-a-Service (DaaS) option, allowing for the lease of ThinkEdge. This solution eliminates upfront costs, making cutting-edge technology more accessible and cost-effective for organizations and city councils looking to implement AI video analytics.
Varinderjit Singh, Lenovo Malaysia’s General Manager, said, “We are excited to embark on this transformative journey with Austral Techsmith, as mobility is an essential part of the smart city blueprint for Malaysia. Together, we look forward to paving the way towards smarter and safer cities, by harnessing the power of AI video analytics.”
