The Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Victorious Step Sdn. Bhd. (VStep), to start on a value-added transformation for VStep through the deployment of smart automation technology.

The MoA signing ceremony was held with the combination of the official launch of VStep’s factory and the awarding of Letter of Authorization (LOA) from PROTON to Vstep.

The event was officiated by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Sri Norazman Ayob, Deputy Secretary General (Industrial Development) of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI).

Through this MoA, VStep, a local parts and components supplier specialising in injection moulding, will gain access to various customized MARii programmes such as Automotive Supplier Excellence Programme (ASEP), MARii Industry4WRD Technology Platform (MITP), Automotive Industry Certification Engineering (AICE), and Industry Professional – Led Certification: Pengiktirafan Percapaian Terdahulu (IPC-PPT), serving as tools to enhance their business capabilities to meet current industry demands.

Dato’ Madani Sahari, CEO MARii “This MoA is a significant step in the development of local vendors in the areas of Smart Automation and Robotics to increase process accuracy, efficiency and productivity, and bring higher value products to the global market.”

“This collaboration will also serve as a benchmark for more local automotive parts and components supplier to embark on a transformation towards smart automation, opening more opportunities to participate in the value chains of more sophisticated mobility product segments in the future.”, he added.

VStep will gain access to full-scale automation solutions, enhancing their assembly line capacity and capability through data collection and analytics in real-time, through MITP. It offers production planning, resource management, performance analysis, product tracking and genealogy, process execution, data collection and quality management in a single, integrated cloud-based solution.

ASEP is a parts and components manufacturer programme that high on process improvement by implementing Total Quality Management coaching activities to increase production capacity, which provides a smooth outflow of products while MARii’s human capital development programmes (AICE and IPC-PPT) will enable VStep to develop a highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce through tailor-made upskilling activities and certifications.

“This collaboration with MARii will enable VStep to expand and become more competitive in the automotive industry, especially in the areas of parts and components manufacturing. MARii, being a government agency, can provide us with the tools and platform required to further enhance our labor skills. More importantly, the implementation of Automation and Robotics will be a major step-forward for us, especially in terms of reducing foreign worker dependence, which is also in line with government policy.”, said Ismail bin Haji Ibrahim, Managing Director of VStep.

“As one of two national car brands, PROTON has an important role to play in developing the vendor ecosystem in Malaysia’s automotive industry. We want to see more Malaysian vendors becoming global suppliers with the long-term goal of the industry turning into a net exporter for the nation. By incorporating new intelligent features in our model range and helping connect Malaysian vendors with foreign counterparts, PROTON is hoping to speed up the process by increasing the localisation of high technology parts as well as boosting competencies in the community.”, said Tuan Haji Hamizan Bin Osman, Senior Director of Procurement, PROTON.

VStep’s new factory, located in Shah Alam, is a one-stop manufacturing plant which houses state-of-the-art equipment and tools required to manufacture plastic components for vehicles. It has been in operation since October 2017 and was officially launched today in conjunction with the signing ceremony.
