Maxis and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) are collaborating to foster greater innovation and tech breakthroughs among startups through MDEC’s IdeaKita programme. As part of the partnership, Maxis’ Tai Kam Leong, Head of Brand and Marketing and Arjun Varma, Head of Maxis Consumer, provided their expertise as industry mentors to guide participants in the Office Hours Mentoring Sessions at MDEC’s 10-day IdeaKita Innovation Camp from the 3rd to the 31st of October.
The IdeaKita programme, which is under the Malaysia Digital initiative, enables aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs to start their own tech companies across multiple industries and provides industry mentorship, intellectual property awareness and minimum viable product development. The bootcamp was divided into two tracks: for those who want to start a tech company but do not have a business idea yet and for those who already have a business idea and are looking for customer and market validation, MVP development and learning how to sell. Through the bootcamp, budding innovators and entrepreneurs were given access to industry mentors and training courses to validate their problem statements, ideas, and business models to bring them to market.
“IdeaKita aims to catalyse and transform the capabilities and capacities of our digital ecosystem. As part of the new Malaysia Digital initiative, our goal is to create and foster 200 new tech companies by the end of the year. MDEC will continue to accelerate collaborations that will drive digital adoption among young entrepreneurs, businesses, and the rakyat to make Malaysia a digital hub in ASEAN,” said Mahadhir Aziz, Chief Executive Officer at MDEC.
“Maxis is excited to be a part of MDEC’s IdeaKita programme as an industry mentor to guide aspiring technopreneurs in the ideation and validation of tech solutions that are relevant to the market demands of today and the future. We are committed to investing in Malaysia through such programmes and in empowering the local startup scene to bring greater tech innovation to the market,” said Loh Keh Jiat, Chief Marketing Officer at Maxis.
Maxis has been active in the innovation space, developing several programmes with the startup ecosystem in collaboration with MDEC through initiatives such as the Maxis IoT Challenge, SPARK series and Market Access Day. As a Technology Solutions Provider under MDEC’s SME Digitalisation Grant, Maxis has helped digitalise more than 25,000 SMEs with access to a wide range of digital solutions.
