The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), the nation’s leading digital economy agency, successfully hosted the Malaysia Digital (MD) Tech Adoption Summit: Artificial Intelligence (AI) today, marking the first in a series of high-impact events aimed at accelerating AI adoption across industries. The summit, officially launched by YB Tuan Gobind Singh Deo, Minister of Digital and accompanied by YB Tuan Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, Chairman of MDEC, reinforces MDEC’s role as a critical enabler in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming the digital hub of ASEAN.

In alignment with the Malaysia Digital (MD) national strategic initiative, the summit serves as a catalyst for cross-industry collaboration, bringing together entrepreneurs, startups, industry leaders, policymakers, academics, and other key players in the digital economy. This event provides a vital platform for showcasing breakthrough AI innovations, fostering business connections, and promoting the widespread adoption of AI technologies across diverse sectors.

As Malaysia continues its rapid digitalisation, AI adoption is key to unlocking the country’s future potential. Emerging technologies, such as generative AI, are set to contribute USD 113.4 billion in productive capacity by 2030. From personalising customer experiences to optimising supply chains and improving decision-making, AI is positioned to bring transformative economic benefits to Malaysia, with experts forecasting it could contribute up to USD 1 trillion to the region’s GDP by 2030.

AI adoption promises a significant impact across all levels of the business ecosystem. SMEs stand to benefit from enhanced productivity, reduced operational costs, and access to cutting-edge AI tools, enabling them to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market. Large enterprises can harness the power of AI to optimise large-scale operations, leveraging predictive analytics, automation, and AI-driven insights to enhance efficiency and growth.

For tech providers, the summit offers a valuable platform to showcase their innovative solutions, enabling greater collaboration with businesses across industries and opening new market opportunities. Meanwhile, for the government, the summit further solidifies Malaysia’s role as a facilitator of Industry 4.0 transformation, supporting the country’s ambition to position itself as a global leader in the digital economy.

The summit aligns with Malaysia’s broader goals under the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL), which seeks to transform the country into a digitally driven, high-income nation. With a focus on AI, the summit contributes directly to the goals of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), targeting a 30% increase in productivity through AI-driven solutions.

The summit featured a keynote speech by Datin Ts. Habsah Nordin, Head of the Artificial Intelligence Centre of Excellence (AI CoE) at Petronas, and a panel discussion addressing opportunities and challenges in AI adoption across industries. Attendees participated in networking sessions, workshops, and business matching opportunities, where select AI companies presented their cutting-edge solutions, driving collaboration and innovation.

MDEC remains committed to fostering growth through its diverse initiatives, providing incentives, governance frameworks, and strategic support to ensure the continued advancement of Malaysia’s digital economy.
