Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI) is supporting the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) Code:XtremeApps 2018 (CXA 2018) hackathon to be held at Singapore Management University’s School of Economics / School of Social Sciences. The 24-hour hackathon for the Open and School Category will run from Friday to Saturday, 13th – 14th July, while the 3-hour Junior Category hackathon will be held on Saturday, 14th July.
Themed “Changing our world with AI”, the hackathon has three main categories – a three-hour Junior Category, and a 24-hour School and Open Category, to encourage participants of all ages to develop innovative solutions that can solve real-life problems and make Singapore a better place to live in.

Motorola Solutions has contributed two challenge statements related to public safety to stimulate participant interest in developing innovative solutions for safer cities of tomorrow. The problem statements were released six weeks before the competition for participants to begin planning and basic development of their application. An additional twist to each challenge will be revealed just before the round-the-clock hackathon begins.

Of the 101 registered teams for the School and Open Categories, 38 are school teams made up of secondary, junior college and International Baccalaureate students (13 – 17 years old), 63 teams from universities and tertiary institutes (18 years old and above), and remaining 20 teams made up of working professionals and programming enthusiasts of all ages.

“We’re excited to partner with IMDA in this hackathon to encourage innovation in the area of public safety. It is also heartening to see such a great number of young participants. Hackathons support and encourage an open innovation platform where restrictions are removed and new ideas can thrive. In the same spirit, even as Motorola celebrates our 90th anniversary this year, we continue to explore using artificial intelligence to enhance our capabilities in public safety solutions, and remain highly supportive of talent development in software, data and design.” said Prabhakar Rajagopal, vice president and general manager, Asia and Japan, Motorola Solutions.
