OasisEye Specialists, a leading ophthalmologist centre in Malaysia, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EyRIS Pte Ltd, effectively appointing the first eye centre in Malaysia to implement EyRIS’s ground-breaking eye systemic screening software. This MoU includes cooperation on several fronts, such as community screening programs and promotional activities.

There are approximately 1.8 million undiagnosed diabetics in Malaysia according to the International Diabetes Federation. It is estimated that 17 out of every 100 in Malaysia is suffering from this chronic yet silent condition. One of the most common complications from diabetes is diabetic retinopathy which is asymptomatic during early stages but can lead to blindness when it takes a turn for the worse.

“OasisEye Specialists is excited to be chosen as the first eye centre in Malaysia to collaborate with EyRIS for their ground-breaking eye and systemic screening software. We hope to be able to detect eye diseases at a much earlier stage to protect our patients from avoidable blindness. Concurrently by obtaining retinal images from a tertiary cardiovascular centre and a tertiary ophthalmology centre, we envisage contributing to the current database of patients that EyRIS has. Research opportunities in identifying biomarkers for various common eye diseases in Malaysia can also be explored,” said Managing Director of OasisEye, Dr Kenneth Fong.

Effective immediately, patients at OasisEye Specialists will enjoy the luxury of having state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence (AI) via an image of the retina to diagnose retina diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. This facility is located in Nexus, Bangsar South or at Healthscan, in Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), an OasisEye strategic partner. The MOU was signed by Mr Lai Teik Kin, CEO EyRIS and Dr Kenneth Fong, Managing Director of OasisEye Specialists.

“EyRIS is pleased to have found a strong partner to jointly launch our services in Malaysia. Under the leadership of Dr Fong, OasisEye has taken a giant step to incorporate artificial intelligence systems to deliver quality eye care to their patients and collect data to further strengthen current AI algorithms or develop new ones,” added Mr Lai.
