Covering Disruptive Technology Powering Business in The Digital Age

A workshop on Open Data for senior government officials was conducted by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) in collaboration with The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM) on 22nd September 2015 at Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside.

The workshop was part of the National Big Data Analytics (BDA) framework initiatives focussing on Open Data that advocates the publishing of unclassified data to the public and sharing of relevant data inter-ministries/agencies. The workshop was officiated by YBhg. Datuk Che Azemi Haron, Deputy Secretary General (Operations), Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia (KKMM).

The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Richard Stirling and Ms. Emma Truswell representative from the Open Data Institute (ODI), which is a key strategic advisor on Open Data for governments across the world. ODI is an independent and non-profit entity that convenes world-class experts from industry, government and academia to collaborate, incubate, nurture and explore new ideas, ultimately promoting innovation with Open Data.

The workshop aims to:

1. Create awareness amongst senior level officials on the importance of publishing the data and sharing the data so that new data values can be derived and for them to champion and drive this at the respective ministry/agency.
2. Share world class example of use cases on Open Data and the benefits and values obtained.
3. Share insights in terms of challenges in implementing Open Data and steps that can be adopted to ensure smooth implementation.
