Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) and Rand Development Sdn Bhd (Rand), the development arm of the Rand Group Malaysia, recently signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) to jointly develop a Smart City Ecosystem, which will be adopted in Rand’s upcoming real estate projects.

The signing ceremony took place at the Huawei Customer Solution Innovation Center (CSIC) in Kuala Lumpur, which was attended by Marcus Chia Zeng Yik, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Rand, and Lim Chee Siong, Vice President at Huawei Cloud Malaysia.

The collaboration involves both parties utilising their expertise to explore the possibilities for joint further development of innovative projects that will include areas such as Smart Buildings, Smart Asset Management, Smart Hospitality, Smart Living and Smart Retail, as well as Intelligent Connectivity. These initiatives reaffirm Rand’s commitment to adopt and promote good Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) practices by leveraging innovation and technology to enhance its business capabilities as the company moves forward with its mission to build a better and sustainable future.

Under this MoC, Huawei Malaysia will provide Rand with a wide assortment of industry–leading ICT products and solutions, including IoT communications modules and operating systems, wired and wireless access, agile networks, cloud-based distributed data centres and Big Data platforms. Huawei Malaysia will also leverage its strengths and expertise in information and communications technology (ICT) to develop tailor–made innovations to match Rand’s needs and requirements of the highest standards.

“We are delighted to work closely with Huawei as our new integrated ICT partner. Through this partnership, we will be well-positioned to create greater value for our customers and stakeholders as a whole, as well as to develop new digital business models and provide new services that ensure sustainability and efficiency in our projects. We are committed to study, explore and develop high-quality real estate projects that benefit people’s living needs and contribute to creating a better and sustainable future for the Malaysian real estate industry,” said Yik.

Siong added: “Cloud is the way of the future. We expect that by 2025, 95% of all new digital workloads will be deployed directly on the Cloud. We aim to help our partners in the region achieve their goals. Our industry strategy is simple. We focus on ‘Infrastructure as a Service,’ ‘Technology as a Service’ and a win-win ecosystem with our partners to continuously improve the core competitiveness of Huawei Cloud.”

By forging this strategic collaboration, the parties will also work towards contributing to equipping Malaysians with in-demand digital knowledge which is critical in nation building and personal development.
