REWILD Our Planet is the social Augmented Reality experience that asks humanity to take back control and restore balance to the natural world.

Developed in partnership with Netflix, World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sandsand Google, this innovative installation blends location-based AR technology and IMAX-style content into an evocative experience. The exhibition complements the Netflix Original Series Our Planet, an eight-part showcase of the world’s most fragile ecosystems, narrated by David Attenborough.

First interactive AR experience to operate simultaneously across three cities

It is the first interactive AR experience to operate simultaneously across three cities – ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, Dolby Studio in New York City and We Are Curious in Bristol (UK). This is made possible by PHORIA’s software platform CAPTUR3D, whose digital twin system uses a virtual clone of each venue to align digital information within the exhibition space. The app also leverages Google’s ARCore software – an Android SDK that brings AR to mobile devices – and an ARUPengineered physical installation.

Combining 2D storytelling with AR gameplay

It also combines 2D storytelling with AR gameplay, supported by sensory sights and sounds, to capture just how extensively human activity has degraded many of Earth’s biomes: frozen, grassland, forest and ocean. The experience prompts users to physically collaborate with one another to restore damaged biomes, unlocking unique weather patterns and wild animal encounters. AR gameplay allows users to rewild realistic 3D landscapes and realise their collective power to create change. The more they work as one, the faster users can rebalance each biome and make their pledge to protect the Earth. And what makes REWILD Our Planet truly unique is that these pledges persist between experiences, so users can read past pledges as they add their own, and know that they aren’t alone. This feature connects to WWF’s Voice for the Planet campaign.

AR is increasingly becoming a bigger part of everyday lives, with the technology becoming more and more refined offering solutions to real-world situations as well as expanding gaming opportunities.
