Singapore national water agency PUB and technology, defence and engineering group ST Engineering have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop digital technologies to improve the agency’s water management system and operations.
Under the terms of the agreement, both organisations will exchange knowledge and expertise, provide mutual support and undertake collaborative projects for the next five years.
For the development and implementation of operating systems for the water infrastructure and systems, PUB will provide domain expertise and ST Engineering will provide digital technology and engineering system expertise.
The agreement was signed by PUB deputy chief executive (operations) Harry Seah and ST Engineering chief marketing officer Chew Men Leong on the sidelines of the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) Spotlight 2019 in the presence of PUB chief executive Ng Joo Hee and ST Engineering president and CEO Vincent Chong.
Harry Seah said: “Investments in technologies and innovation are key to our water strategy. This enables us to continue to deliver on our mission to supply secure and sustainable water for Singapore.
“This is the first time we have signed an agreement with ST Engineering to draw on digital technologies and we are excited about this partnership to jointly develop innovative operating systems to further enhance operation from our water planning and infrastructure system to customer service.”
Chew Men Leong said: “To meet future water demands, water systems are adopting innovative IoT applications for enhanced system intelligence, visibility, automation and control.
“We are excited about this partnership opportunity to enhance Singapore’s next-generation water infrastructure and systems.
“We are confident that our technology and engineering expertise, in particular smart water management applications when combined with PUB’s water competencies, will result in solutions that optimise a sustainable management of water resource for Singapore.”
ST Engineering, which specialises in the aerospace, electronics, land systems and marine sectors, has offices in Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Middle East, and serves customers in the defence, government and commercial segments in more than 100 countries.
PUB, a statutory board under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, manages Singapore’s water supply, water catchment and used water in an integrated way.
