U Mobile, the award-winning mobile and digital services provider, and Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore and promote the adoption and commercialisation of X2B – 5G-powered applications, solutions and intelligent services to businesses – in Malaysia. Leveraging Huawei’s vast global experience, U Mobile aims to adapt relevant X2B use cases to suit Malaysian market needs, in line with the telco’s corporate agenda of supporting enterprises in their innovation, efficiency and productivity drive.
Under the MoU, U Mobile and Huawei Malaysia will collaborate to provide end-to-end technology enablers and solutions, such as enterprise 5G core network, data centres and cloud infrastructure, for X2B applications in verticals including, but not limited, to manufacturing, retail and agriculture. To ensure the success of this partnership, U Mobile will also tap into Huawei’s advanced cloud infrastructure in Malaysia as well as its ecosystem of international and local partners to further enhance Malaysia’s X2B landscape.
As part of the MoU, U Mobile and Huawei Malaysia will push X2B innovation by testing new technologies such as RedCap, passive-IoT and mmWave as well as by developing 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) applications to enhance use cases like live broadcast, transportation and Internet of Video Things. In addition, the partnership also involves an ecosystem of 5G terminal partners that will provide a range of terminal devices suitable for specific enterprise demands. These partner devices will be verified by Huawei Malaysia for performance, quality, and interoperability to ensure smooth adoption.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at Huawei’s Executive Briefing Center (EBC) in Beijing, China with Navin Manian, U Mobile’s Chief Marketing Officer and Neil Tomkinson, U Mobile’s Chief Information Officer; along with Tonny Bao, President of Global Government Affairs and Vice President of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd along with Simon Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Malaysia. The signing was witnessed by YB Fahmi Fadzil, Malaysia’s Minister of Communications and Mano Verabathran, Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications Malaysia.
