YTL Communications has announced that its YES telecommunications services would be launching 5G services in selected markets in the Klang Valley from today, making it the first Malaysian telco to do so. The announcement comes in the wake of Digital Nasional Berhad [DNB]’s launch of Malaysia’s 5G services recently.
Announcing the rollout, YTL Communications Chief Executive Officer Wing K. Lee said, “YES is proud to be the first to 5G. This major initiative by the Government of Malaysia through DNB will steer the nation to a digitalised and connected future. YES exists to make everyday experiences simpler, easier and better for everyone by leveraging future-first technology coupled with real-world applications. We are playing our part in helping Malaysia reach its fullest potential by ensuring more Malaysians have access to 5G, by making 5G access and 5G-enabled devices available with unbeatable plans.”
YES #FirstTo5G Plans
In conjunction with the launch of 5G in Malaysia, YES is launching a series of special YES #FirstTo5G Plans, which include unlimited 5G access until the 1st of April 2022. Customers who sign up to any of these plans will be able to experience the fifth and newest generation of mobile technology, offering higher speeds, more reliable coverage, reduced latency and great network capacity with a supported 5G phone. With 5G, customers also can enjoy faster downloads, quicker website browsing and better streaming experiences.
Details of the plan are as follows:
YES FT5G Prepaid Unlimited | YES FT5G Postpaid 49 | YES FT5G Postpaid 99 Phone Bundles |

How to sign up:
- Customers need to sign up to a YES FT5G Plan on the YES Website (http://www.yes.my/FT5G), from an Authorised Dealer or 163 MyNews Outlets across Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
- If the customer has a supported 5G phone, activate the SIM through the MyYes App (App Store/Google Play) and insert the SIM into the phone to instantly experience 5G. If outside 5G coverage, YES’s 4G LTE network will be utilised instead.
If the customer does not have a 5G enabled phone, sign up to any YES FT5G 99 Postpaid Bundle through the YES’ online store to enjoy FREE or generously subsidised phones delivered to their doorstep.
Current 5G coverage areas include Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and parts of Kuala Lumpur City Centre, with plans to expand to the whole of Klang Valley by end-2022.
Lee added that YES was working with global tech giants across industries to bring world-class innovations to Malaysians, including CloudMinds, Zoom, Tencent Lenovo and Qualcomm. Through these partnerships, YES is looking to develop and deploy advanced 5G solutions in Malaysia.
