Beyond the requirements of customers in the usual market landscape of Business-to-Consumers (B2C), the Business-to-Business (B2B) infrastructure also has its own industry-specific needs. Technology-wise, B2B requires a much-focused solution to deliver better performance to particular businesses, which is why it is also called a vertical industry compared to the horizontal setup of B2C.
ZTE, in addressing such needs for B2B when it comes to technological solutions, introduced the ‘wireless precision network’ in deploying 5G applications, in what they call an innovative concept in the market.
In an interview with DTA, Chao Xiong, Vice President of RAN MKT at ZTE, announced that in light of increasing requirements for applications in B2B enterprises, ZTE launched the Precise RAN (Radio Access Network) solution, ZTE’s wireless precision network offering.
The Precise RAN solution, according to Chao, is completely new to the market, enabling enterprises across different vertical industries to efficiently and effectively deploy their 5G applications. “Even under sophisticated scenario and explicit application requirements, the Precise RAN ensures high service quality and maintains a high efficiency of radio resource utilisation, facilitating 5G applications for vertical industries”, explained Chao.
Existing B2C-oriented wireless networks generally serve end-users with the best-effort service strategy tailored toward network-level KPIs. For B2B vertical industry services, every application requires much stricter and explicit requirements for latency, reliability, bandwidth and user-level performance guarantees – and such is the need for a wireless precision network featured in ZTE’s Precise RAN solution.
According to Chao, ZTE’s Precise RAN solution delivers these needs by providing services with ‘latency@reliability’ of up to 10ms@99.999%, ensuring the performance of protection applications in the smart power grid industry and remote control applications in smart ports or industrial parks.
In addition, ZTE’s Precise RAN solution can ensure 10+ Gbps uplink bandwidth per single site, which supports various concurrent video uploading scenarios from industrial parks. This includes co-deployment of 10 sets of machine vision applications (100-300Mbps/App), 50 sets of cloud automated guide vehicles (10-20Mbps/App) and 100 sets of video monitoring applications (5-20Mbps/App) even under a sole 5G base station.
“ZTE understands the challenges of application deployment faced by B2B industries. We hope to support 5G applications in various vertical industries ranging from the power grid, mining, port, steel, transportation, manufacturing and warehouse. We have already seen great results in our partnerships across different sectors”, said Chao.
The telecoms company has already been supporting enterprises from different sectors to expand Precise RAN solution’s usage, such as the following:
- Partnered with China Southern Power Grid, ZTE provided the latency and reliability required for differential protection in power grids.
- Together with Shanxi Coal Group, ZTE supported ultra-high uplink bandwidth for scenarios with densely distributed HD cameras.
- In the Tianjin port, ZTE provided a 5G network that delivers the required latency and reliability for remote control of gantry cranes.
- Collaborated with Guangzhou Metro, ZTE’s Precise RAN solution delivered the reliability needed for Metro operation.
The Precise RAN solution is part of the projects ZTE announced during the recent Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2021. Chao said that this year, wireless would be ZTE’s great focus, including their ‘Superior 5G Network’, ‘Intelligent Orchestration Radio Network Solution’ and 5G ATG (Air-To-Ground) technologies.
